Eligibility Rules and Submission Guidelines

ASME Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D (IAM3D) challenges are open to all mechanical engineering, multidisciplinary engineering and technology undergraduate students worldwide. The student must be enrolled as an undergraduate in a baccalaureate or associate engineering/engineering technology degree program at any time during the present academic year. All Competitors agree to abide by the Engineering Code of Ethics , with particular attention to Canons #2 and #7.

The competitions are open to individuals and teams of no more than three members. There is no limit to the number of entries from a university. However the design submission must be authorized by a Faculty member team advisor from the university. An individual student may participate on only one team. Each team may only have one entry per IAM3D E-Fest event.

How to Participate
Registration for all IAM3D Challenges held at E-Fest events opens online Tuesday, November 15, 2016. To compete in the challenge, student/team leader are required to complete the following:

  • Business Case Report (guidelines below)
  • Upload a 3 Minute YouTube Video (please see submission form for the video naming convention)
  • Upload a CAD Model to Autodesk 360 Viewer (free)

Business Case Report Guidelines
In the report, students must articulate business case justification of the redesign, value added as measured by reduced (i) time to produce, (ii) cost impact, (iii) sustainability, (iv) energy consumption or renewable energy generation, (v) reduced materials and (vi) promoting green design.

  • Must be in English
  • Include a cover page which includes:
    • Design project title
    • Individual and/or team names and email addresses
    • Faculty sponsor name and email address
    • YouTube video link
    • Autodesk 360 CAD viewer link
    • Product image(s)
  • Maximum 6 pages (including cover page)
  • Contain product CAD and/or 3D printed images

Notification of Acceptance
Entries that have been accepted will typically be notified 6 weeks before the event start date (or sooner).
