Nils Diaz chaired ASME's Presidential Task Force on Response to the Japan Nuclear Power Plant Events. A former chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, he has more than 40 years of nuclear experience. Dr. Diaz currently is managing director of the ND2 Group, an expert policy advisor group focused on national and international nuclear power development and deployment.

Dr. Diaz also was director of a National Consortium for Advanced Nuclear Power and Propulsion for the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) and the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). As director, he exercised prime contractor management and lead scientist responsibilities for industry, national laboratories, and seven major universities under contracts with DOD, the Defense Nuclear Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy and NASA.

He has worked extensively in the international arena and served as a commissioner for the Florida Energy and Climate Commission. Dr. Diaz is a Fellow of ASME as well as the American Nuclear Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences.

Dr. Diaz holds a PhD and Master of Science degree in nuclear engineering sciences from the University of Florida and Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Villanova, Havana.
