ASME TechCast:
Bill Nye the Science Guy

April 2019

Player description

“Let’s go! Let’s get it done!” is a phrase often repeated by William Sanford Nye, a mechanical engineer recognized around the world as Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Ever since 1993 when his show first aired on PBS and received both critical acclaim and widespread admiration from kids and adults, Nye has been a relentless advocate for science and technology. Today, he doesn’t mind being called the Science Guy but prefers to say he’s the CEO of the Planetary Society, a nonprofit “empowering the world’s citizens to advance space science and exploration.”

John Falcioni, editor-in-chief and publisher of ASME’s Mechanical Engineering magazine, caught up with Nye at a recent E-Fest—engineering festival for students—in Pomona, CA, to explore his thoughts on workforce development and the latest technological trends.
