NEW YORK, New York, Dec. 12, 2016 – The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in New York City has promoted Jeff Patterson to chief operating officer, a new position on the staff of the worldwide technical organization.
Previously the associate executive director of Marketing & Sales at ASME, Patterson in his new role will implement an organizational strategy focused on the creation of products, services, and programs around five key technologies – manufacturing, bioengineering, robotics, clean energy, and pressure technology. He will continue to serve on the ASME executive management team and work in collaboration with all sectors of the organization, including staff, volunteers and the Society’s Board of Governors.
Patterson will oversee conferences, engineering standards and certification, marketing and sales, customer care, programs and philanthropy, online and print media, new business development, training and professional development courses, technical publishing and membership. He will be tasked to improve the Society’s business models, while also driving international membership and increasing revenue.

Prior to joining ASME in January 2016, Jeff Patterson was president of the insurance division of ALM Media, a B2B media company based in New York City. Previously, he was chief executive officer at Mile 21 LLC (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Safari Books Online (Sebastopol, Calif.). Responsibilities at these firms ranged from business strategy and performance to digital product development.
Patterson has also held positions at CMP Media LLC (Manhasset, N.Y.), Beacon Technology Partners (Concord, Mass.), Cahners Publishing Co. (Newton, Mass.), and National Semiconductor (Santa Clara, Calif.). He attended the University of California and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
