ASME Publishes Third Edition of Pipeline Pumping and Compression Systems Handbook

ASME Press has issued a third edition of its classic pipeline book, Pipeline Pumping and Compression Systems: A Practical Approach, in time for the International Pipeline Conference (IPC) 2018, which will be held from Sept. 24 to 28 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

This comprehensive professional reference has been extensively revised and updated for its third edition. The handbook can be used by engineers in the pipeline industry as both a training tool and reference text, since it addresses all facets of pipeline pumping and compression system design, configuration and operation, as well as the dynamic behavior of the various elements in each system.

The authors of this edition, Kamal Botros and Tom Van Hardeveld, offer readers practical solutions for realizing reliable operation of these systems. The nearly 670-page reference serves as an informative guide for the design of liquid and gas pipeline transmissions, as well as a guide to various installation options. It is also a valuable resource for practicing engineers in the pipeline and oil and gas industry, particularly those involved with the design and operation of pumping and compression systems.

In addition to a new preface for the third edition of the handbook, a forward and a section providing an introduction to pipeline systems, the book's 13 chapters cover a range of topics including liquid pipeline pumping system design; gas pipeline compression system design; design and operation of pumps; pump performance; design and operation of compressors; performance of compressors; and pump and compressor drivers. Other chapters in the reference book address the dynamic behavior of pumping systems; the dynamics of centrifugal compression systems; pulsation and vibration analysis of compression and pumping systems; mechanical analysis; and environmental issues related to compressor and pump stations.

ASME members can purchase a print edition of Pipeline Pumping and Compression Systems Handbook: A Practical Approach, Third Edition (Order No. 861783) on ASME.org for $199 — a savings of $50 off the regular price.
