Infographic: Cobots, Safety, and Risk Assessment

While cobots are designed with built-in safety features, implementing proper risk assessment, and assessing site conditions is necessary to create a safe work environment.
Collaborative robots (cobots) are designed with built-in safety measures, mainly being able to stop their movement when coming into contact with humans. Cobots have created a new service industry for automation as they allow humans and robots to work side-by-side. However, no cobot arm is inherently safe. Depending on the action being performed or the end-effector being used, a cobot can still cause harm. Universal Robots’ Senior Manager of Applications Development Joe Campbell highlights how a proper risk assessment is needed to create a safe work environment and capitalize on the cobot’s built-in safety features.
