Description

Mechanical properties of biological cells as a biomarker for diagnostics. During the past two decades, Lab-on-a-Chip (LOC) concept emerged as a new important tool in biotechnology with many biomedical applications including proteomics, DNA analyses, cell culture, drug screening, and immunoassays. This new technology was made possible by the evolution of microfluidics as a new research area in the mid 1990's. At the core of most LOC device lies a microfluidic platform responsible for pumping, metering, and mixing the different samples and reagents loaded on the device. Microfluidics brings a whole set of new advantages to biomedical applications such as reduced sample and reagent consumption, fast chemical reactions, high throughput, and portability. In this webinar we will discuss an introduction about microfluidics and its applications, and a microfluidic platform to diagnose endometriosis based on mechanical deformability of endometrial cells.
