ASME EFx™ Launches a Full Season of Engineering Student Events at Universities throughout India

Engineering students at universities throughout India are collaborating with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to host nine special events from late August through October. ASME EFx events in India give students the opportunity to showcase their technical skills and creativity and connect with thought leaders and practicing engineers for career advice. Registration is now open for the following events:

Saturday, August 24 at National Institute of Technology, Patna, Bihar
Saturday, August 31 at B.H. Gardi College of Engineering & Technology, Rajkot, Gujarat
Saturday, Sept. 7 at The LN Mittal Institute of Information & Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan
Saturday, Sept. 14 at G.H. Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur, Maharashtra
Friday, Sept. 20 at KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belgaum, Karnataka
Saturday, Sept. 28 at MKSSS Cummins College of Engineering for Women, Pune, Maharashtra
Saturday, Oct. 5 at Punjab Engineering College, Cahndigarh
Saturday, Oct. 12 at Mar Baselius College of Engineering & Technology, Trivandrum, Kerala
Saturday, Oct. 19 at Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology, Cochin, Kerala

“The most exciting part about EFx is that students from all around the region get together and create a network with each other,” explains ASME student section advisor at B.H. Gardi College of Engineering & Technology. “Hosting this event is a special opportunity because it nurtures many qualities in students including leadership, communication skills, management skills, teamwork, decision making and many more which would have been very difficult to learn otherwise. Moreover, students get to interact with experts from different parts of the world, which helps them expand their vision for the future.”

The centerpiece competitions of each EFx event range from a hydraulic robotic arm design challenge at NIT Patna, to a machine building race at LNMIIT, to a 24-hour hackathon at B.H. Gardi in which students will go beyond the typical software coding format to develop comprehensive engineering solutions that address a real-world challenge in rural development, healthcare, farming, or education.

In addition to the competitions, attendees will have the opportunity to network and participate in interactive sessions led by industry professionals on topics including the new “concurrent engineering” methodology (also known as “simultaneous engineering” or “integrated product development”), lean manufacturing, and industry 4.0. Highlights include a talk on biomimicry – drawing inspiration from nature to develop solutions to engineering problems – by Prashant Dhawan, and keynote addresses from industry leaders with companies including BOSCH India, JCB Inc., Mentorpreneur Advisors and others.

“ASME is proud to help provide opportunities like EFx and larger-scale E-Fests where engineering students can apply what they’ve learned in the classroom as they prepare to launch their careers,” says ASME Executive Director/CEO Tom Costabile. “Working engineers enjoy the experience as much as the students. I’m excited to be a part of it and build our community.”

About ASME E-Fests
ASME Engineering Festivals™ (E-Fests) are regional events for engineering students that include design competitions, career development workshops, access to thought leaders and innovators in various engineering fields, and networking opportunities. E-Fests also extend beyond the in-person events and provide online content, resources and a community that enables students to foster innovation, network with key players in the industry, connect with peers and celebrate engineering!
