Registration Now Open for Three ASME E-Fests

The second year of ASME’s Engineering Festival (E-Fest) program will kick off with three events that are scheduled to take place in India and the United States during March and April. Registration is now open for the E-Fests, which are engaging and enlightening global events for engineering students to experience the fun and excitement that the profession has to offer through informative sessions and workshops, compelling student competitions, and lively social activities.
The first ASME E-Fest of 2018 — E-Fest Asia Pacific — will be held from March 16 to 18 at Delhi Technological University in Delhi, India. The second event, E-Fest West, will follow from March 23-25 at the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. E-Fest East will take place from April 13-15 at Penn State in State College, Pa. More than 2,000 engineering students and participants attended the three ASME E-Fests that were held last spring — and program organizers expect even more E-Fest attendees this year.
The three-day, two-night festivals are student-focused events that encompass a number of exciting activities, including keynote presentations, student leadership training sessions, awards receptions, sessions focusing on FutureME and Engineering for Change (E4C), leadership and professional development workshops, and mentoring and networking opportunities, as well as campus and lab tours, social activities and entertainment.
The E-Fests will also be the location for the regional rounds of several high-profile ASME student competitions: the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge, the Student Design Competition, impromptu CAD battles, and the Old Guard Competition. In other E-Fest news, several presenters have been confirmed to take part in the E-Fests. Simon Pun, lead materials engineer for Divergent 3D, will judge the Impromptu CAD Battle and present the 3D Workshop at E-Fest Asia Pacific on March 17 and at E-Fest West on March 24. Tom Munnerlyn, director of the Career Center at Cal Poly Pomona, will lead a career development workshop at E-Fest West on March 24 as well.
Four speakers, including Albert Manero, president of the non-profit company Limbitless Solutions, have been confirmed as presenters at E-Fest East. Dr. Manero, whose company helps children by donating accessibility technology to their families, will deliver the event’s keynote presentation on Apr. 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Ashlee Palm, a rotational engineer in The Boeing Company’s Engineering Career Foundation Program in Ridley Park, Pa., and Cayla Castells, manufacturing leadership program manager for Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt, will discuss the transition from college to career during the session “Early Career Success” on Apr. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tim Simpson, the Paul Morrow Professor of Engineering Design and Manufacturing at Penn State and co-director of the university’s Center for Innovative Materials Processing through Direct Digital Deposition, will speak at both the Impromptu CAD Battle and the 3D Printing Workshop on the afternoon of Apr. 14.
Registration for E-Fest Asia Pacific will cost 1,500 Indian Rupees through March 15, and 1,800 Indian Rupees after that date. Registration for E-Fest West is $100 through Feb. 16, $125 from Feb. 17 to March 22, and $150 on site. Registration for E-Fest East is $100 through March 16, $125 from March 17 to April 12, and $150 on site.
A fourth festival, E-Fest South American, is scheduled to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in late July. For more information on the E-Fest program, visit efests.asme.org.
