Register for the Internal Combustion Engine Fall Technical Conference in Seattle

Registration is now open for the 2017 Internal Combustion Engine Fall Technical Conference (ICEF 2017) in Seattle, Wash. The conference, which is being hosted by PACCAR Technical Center, will be held Oct. 15-18 at the Doubletree by Hilton Seattle Airport.
ICEF 2017 will feature high-quality research presentations by leading experts on the development, advancement, and improved understanding of the internal combustion engine — as well keynote speakers, student presentations, and industrial tours. The conference will also offer a number of opportunities for engineers from the field to network with their colleagues from industry, academia and national laboratories.
ICEF 2017 will be comprised of seven technical tracks addressing the following topics: large bore engines; fuels; advanced combustion; emissions control systems; instrumentation, controls and hybrids; numerical simulation; and engine design and mechanical development.
The conference will kick off with an Opening Night Reception, hosted by PACCAR Technical Center on Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Double Tree by Hilton Seattle Airport, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Opening Night Reception, which will feature a Work-in-Progress Graduate Student Poster Session, is open to all attendees.
This year, the conference will include two keynote presentations. On Monday, Oct. 16, Dr. Carl Hergart, Director of Advanced Technology, PACCAR Technical Center will deliver the first keynote, “Repowering Freight: Gearing Up for the Future.” The second keynote, titled “Connected and Automated Vehicles — Their Implications for Energy and Fuel Efficiency,” will be presented Tuesday, Oct. 17, by ASME Fellow Dr. Chris Atkinson, Program Director, Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E). The conference will also feature a special panel session, “On-Road Heavy-Duty Engine Efficiency: 50 Percent and Beyond,” on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
The conference will also feature a student competition highlighting undergraduate research in internal combustion engine technology. Two winning applicants will be selected to present their work to a group of leading experts in the internal combustion engine field. The two winners will also receive a $3,000 cash prize, plus travel and lodging expenses of up to $1,500 each. Students who entered the competition but were not selected as one of the winners will have the opportunity to present their entries at a special student poster session. This year’s ICEF program will include a workshop, “Convergent Science Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD),” to be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18. This CFD workshop will provide early career engineers, graduate students and others with a hands-on introduction to modeling combustion and flow in heavy-duty reciprocating engines using CFD simulation tools.
ICEF attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the PACCAR Technical Center in Mt. Vernon, Wash., on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The technical tour, which will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will allow participants to view the site’s materials, structuring, electrical, rapid prototyping, engine test cells, climatic chassis dynamometer, power train test cell, and vehicle display laboratories and facilities.
Registration for the full ICEF conference is $750 for ASME members and authors through Oct. 8, and $850 after that date. Non-member registration for the full conference is $900 through Oct. 8, and $1,000 afterward. Special registration rates are available for ASME Life Members, ASME student members and non-member students. Registration for the “Convergent Science Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)” workshop is an additional $50, while registration for the PACCAR Technical Center tour is an additional $25.
