Description

Instructors

This AIChE course introduces basic chemical and biochemical engineering concepts to technical professionals, who have no formal engineering background or who have been trained in other engineering disciplines.  The course emphasizes chemical and bioengineering fundamentals, which are used frequently in process and product development, (bio)chemical entity manufacturing, commercialization and start-up of new products and facilities and evaluation of (bio)chemical manufacturing technologies.  Practice and application are emphasized, rather than theory and calculation; and the course employs problem worksheets to illustrate the fundamentals and allow participants to apply what they have learned immediately to a practical problem.  The approaches to answering these problems illustrate how chemical engineers approach practical problems.

You Will Learn
- How chemical and biochemical engineers view their world and approach problems
- Principles in heat and mass transfer, fluid flow, chemical and (bio)processing, (bio)separations and purification, (bio)reactor design and process economics
- How to use mass and energy balances to assess the performance of unit operations
- How process equipment works and is designed
- How to estimate whether a chemical process can economically produce a given product
