 Interacting with ASME Standards Development Committees

Committees will consider correspondence from the general public in accordance with the following: 

  • Requests for Interpretation
    Many of ASME's Standards Developing Committees will respond to requests for interpretation to clarify the application of an existing requirement; refer to a particular standard for further information.

  • Requests for Revision
    All of ASME's Standards Developing Committees will respond to requests for revision to revise the wording of an existing requirement or to propose a new requirement; refer to a particular standard for further information.

  • Requests for Cases (Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Only)
    Code Cases permit the use of alternative rules concerning materials, construction, or in-service inspection activities; follow the above link for more information.

  • Requests for New Standards Development Activity
    To request a formal evaluation of a proposal for a new ASME standards development activity, download and complete the checklist and return via email to:

Requests for the development of a new ASME standard activity will be evaluated in accordance with ASME Codes & Standards Policy CSP) 49, Guide for Establishing New Codes or Standards Projects.

ASME standards development committees meet regularly to consider revisions based on technological advances, new data, and changing environmental and industry needs.  All meetings of standards development committees are free and open to the general public.  Please visit the ASME Calendar of Events for a schedule of upcoming meetings.
