Nanostructures are gaining popularity as a key solution to address the growing demand for sustainable energy. Professor Gang Chen, Carl Richard Soderberg Professor of Power Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), discusses significant advances in nanostructures and key emerging technologies in this area.

Dr. Chen obtained his Ph.D. degree from UC Berkeley in 1993. He was an assistant professor at Duke University from 1993-1997, and an associate professor at the University of California at Los Angeles from 1997-2000, before moving to MIT in 2000. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a recipient of the NSF Young Investigator Award, a Guggenheim Fellow, the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award, and the R&D 100 Award.

Dr. Chen has published extensively in the area of nanoscale energy transport and conversion and nanoscale heat transfer. He chairs the advisory board of the ASME Nanotechnology Institute and is the director of newly established U.S. Department of Energy Solid State Solar Thermoelectric Conversion Center.
