Advanced Design and Construction of Nuclear Facility Components per ASME Section III

Advanced Design and Construction of Nuclear Facility Components per ASME Section III

Turin, Italy
Monday 11 June – Thursday 14 June 2012
4 Days

Course Code: PD 644 | Accreditation: 3 CEUs, 30 PDHs | Instructor: San Iyer

From suppliers’ shops to construction sites, this advanced course details Code requirements for the design, fabrication, construction and life extension of nuclear power plants. Covering all aspects of the nuclear pressure boundary as well as the application of methods for fabrication of nuclear pressure boundary components, it provides the required skills for applying Code requirements for NDE techniques for radiography, ultrasonic techniques and other forms of NDE. It also outlines the requirements for performing hydro testing and leak testing. Case studies examine real scenarios encountered in the nuclear industry.

You Will Learn

  • Advanced concepts related to design by analysis and rule
  • How to compare ASME B&PV Code with other international codes
  • Welding and heat treatment requirements
  • What is required for non-destructive examination and testing

Who Should Attend
Nuclear power plant designers, stress analysts, QA and inspection personnel, regulators, and reactor, welding, operations, and utility engineers

Instructor
Dr. San Iyer is currently a Team Leader within the Process Engineering Department of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd, coaching and guiding team members through the design, fabrication and analysis of nuclear pressure vessels and piping components.Dr. Iyer has effectively supervised team members for service projects in Nuclear Class 1 equipment analyses / fabrication as well as coordinated with external clients such as Ontario Power Generation, Hydro Quebec, ComEd, Florida Power and Light and Duke Power in the successful execution of several Nuclear Steam Generator Replacement projects.A member of both CSMA and ASME, Dr. Iyer has specialized in the analyses of steam generators & heat exchangers to ASME B&PV Code and CSA Standards (for CANDU /PWR / BWR) and Issued/Reviewed design reports for the retrofit of Nuclear Class 1/2/3 & non-nuclear piping systems.Dr. Iyer is also currently working on a book for ASME Press; Piping Design & Analyis, scheduled for publication in November 2004.
