Early Career Technical Conference Grant Funding for Districts

Purpose 

The ASME Committee on Early Career Development (CECD) is working to expand the production of Early Career Technical Conferences to reach more early career engineers.  CECD and the ASME Old Guard joined forces to provide both planning expertise and financial support to assist selected ASME Districts with Early Career Technical Conference production. The Early Career Technical Conferences (ECTC) are conducted so that early career practicing engineers, graduate students, and early career academics have a forum to present their technical work and, in the process, develop their skills in written and verbal presentations.

Grant Details

The Grant may provide $100 per participant up to a maximum of $3,000 per conference depending on the size of the conference to assist in the sponsorship of each approved ECTC conducted.

  • Funding will be provided for a maximum of six grants for Conferences within the North America and one grant for an International Conference outside North America.
  • The ECTC must be open to all Early Career Engineers (practicing engineers, graduate students, academics).
  • The ECTC to be conducted must prominently recognize “The ASME Old Guard and the Committee on Early Career Development” for support of the conference.
  • The funds provided must be used and distributed as honorariums to the authors, scaled from $50 to $250 in $50 increments and based on distance traveled to attend the conference.
  • The following information must be provided one month prior to the date of the conference:
    • Number of manuscripts accepted for conference
    • Name to appear on check
    • Name and address of individual to receive the check

Proposal Deadlines

Proposals must be submitted by September 23rd. Pending available funding a second application date of April 15th will be added. Please send the completed proposal from along with all required documentation as a Word or PDF format to earlycareerengineers@asme.org with the subject line “ASME Early Career Technical Conference (ECTC) Grant Proposal”.

Proposal Process

Received proposals will be submitted to the Committee on Early Career Development ECTC Project Team for review and endorsement. Recommended proposals will be forwarded to the Old Guard Committee for the final selection process at their meeting at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE). All applicants will be notified after the ASME IMECE (by November 30) and the ASME Annual Meeting (by June 30) regarding the status of their submitted proposal.

Early Career Technical Conference Results Report

The Conference Organizing Committee must submit a "results report" within 1 month after the event. The “results report” should contain a copy of the proceedings, attendance metrics, final program, financial report, lessons learned, etc. The “results report” must be submitted in either Word or PDF form to earlycareerengineers@asme.org with the subject line “ASME Old Guard Early Career Technical Conference Grant Results Report”.
