The Knowledge and Community (K&C) Sector is made up of a collection of member units that are aligned both geographically and technically.  These units comprise technical divisions, sections, student sections, affinity groups and committees, self-forming groups and communities of practice.  Their purpose is to stimulate the development, acquisition and dissemination of technical knowledge, provide opportunities for engineering practitioners to connect and to exchange ideas, and to promote the advancement and professional development of our members.  These units are all volunteer and member driven and through their activities and programs play a key role in furthering ASME’s goals and objectives.

The K&C Sector, thus, is designed to provide an organizational and management structure for these units.  The various K&C Boards will serve as a resource and platform for enabling these units to form collaborative efforts, share best practices, provide forums for outreach, focus programs on critical issues (students, young engineers, industry, new technologies, etc.), and to develop new business opportunities

The K&C Sector is managed by board comprised of:

  • Senior VP
  • 3 Operational Vice Presidents (Technical, Global and affinity Communities)
  • 2 Functional Vice Presidents (Programs & Activities and Financial Operations)
  • 2 Committee Chairs (Communications and Representation & Governance)
  • Managing Director (Staff position without vote)

The board’s responsibility is to:

  • Supervise all K&C (member unit) programs for ASME
  • Approve addition, revision, or termination of programs and activities
  • Ensure procedures are approved and followed
  • Report to the ASME Board of Governors
  • Sets policy for activities and programs
  • Develop and oversee strategic planning for K&C
  • Formulate performance incentives and metrics for technical, global and affinity communities
  • Appoints K & C committee chairs

Other Standing and/or Ad-Hoc Committees may be established as needed and at the discretion of the Senior VP.
