Committee on Student Development (CSD)

 

Purpose
The Committee on Student Development (CSD) has been established under the direction of the Center for Career and Professional Advancement (CCPA).  The missions of CSD are as follows:

  • To assess the professional needs of engineering students 
  • To continuously improve ASME’s student professional development products to meet those needs
  • To advocate on behalf of students within ASME
  • To market ASME and external student professional development resources to students
  • To raise awareness of ASME and external student professional development resources to other ASME units


Authority

The CSD is an entity operating within, and in concert with, the CCPA.


Responsibilities

  1. To oversee the operation and coordination of student design competitions, conferences, programs, and activities to enhance the development of student members and mechanical engineering students.
  2. To evaluate, and recommend enhancements to the ASME programs concerned with student development, leveraging relationships with other relevant units and groups within ASME, e.g., Committee on Early Career Development, Student Sections Committee, Old Guard Committee, Department Heads Executive Committee, Student Section advisors and others.
  3. To lead the global expansion of ASME student programs.
  4. To maintain the ASME Student Center website, contribute to other student-oriented publications and media, e.g., ME Today newsletter, and develop other promotional and informational communications for engineering students.
  5. To provide input to other units in the Society on matters concerning student engagement, including but not limited to membership outreach and program development.
