Innovative Design Simulation Challenge – Travel Subsidy and Awards (Finals)

Teams that are selected to compete in the Innovative Design Simulation Challenge Finals, are invited to register in the 2016 International Design and Engineering Technical Conference and Computers Information in Engineering Conference (IDETC/CIE)

Registration fee is waived for invited students who are competing in the Finals. Students interested in participating in the IDETC/CIE conference sessions will need to register by July 31, 2016 to take advantage of the discounted student registration rate.

Please indicate your preference either by checking Special Event Registration Box or the Discounted Student Registration Box before July 31. No refunds will be given starting August 1, 2016.

Travel Subsidy

For ASME IDSC finalists to compete at the IDETC/CIE for the final round

  • A subsidy of up to $1,500 per team for up to three (3) team members to cover the travel and other expenses to compete at the Finals at the IDETC/CIE.
  • All travel subsidy will be paid after submittal of expense reports and completion of the Form 990 (USA students) or W8BEN Form (students outside of USA).
  • All travel subsidy/ contributions are subject to ASME policy restrictions unless officially notified otherwise. See also ASME Policy 4.5.

Innovative Design Simulation Challenge (IDSC) - Awards

2 awards will be given in each of 3 software based simulation categories (2 awards in each category, 6 awards total):
-Best overall simulation
-Best utility/impact

  • Custom-Developed

Each winning design in the category will receive $2,000 based on the combined score of the judging criteria from the Qualifier and the Final Round. Each entry can be considered for more than one category.

The Faculty Advisor of each winning team will enjoy a complimentary five year ASME membership (a $735 value), AND a $1,000 cash award. A Faculty Advisor will be eligible to receive the award for only one category.

Acceptance of any award shall constitute and signify winner's agreement and consent that ASME may use the winner's name, city, state, likeness, photo, submission and/or award information in connection with the ASME IDSC for promotional, advertising or other purposes, worldwide, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, including the Internet, without limitation and without further payment, notification, permission or other consideration, except where prohibited by law.

Financial Guidelines

For All Awards: Winners are responsible for all taxes. Each winner will be required to provide ASME with his or her social security number OR complete W8BEN Form for tax purposes.
