Elevators

Elevators

are mechanical lifting systems to transport people and goods vertically in multi-story structures and between decks in ships. Most elevators use electrically powered traction cables and counterweight systems or hydraulically driven pistons. Elevators are used in angled and even curved spaces such as the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Hanover City Hall in Germany, and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Some elevators at Disney parks mimic free-fall by exceeding gravity’s acceleration.
