Online Courses-Instructor Led
Q: Is there a weekly meeting time for these classes?
A: ASME Online classes have no set meeting times-you can access the material at any time via the Internet. Communication with the instructor and fellow students take place via email and discussion areas.
Q: I registered online for a class-what comes next?
A: You will receive a registration confirmation within 24 hours of your registration. This process will take longer if you registered over a weekend. On the week before your class starts you will receive instructions on how to log into your course. Courses will usually be accessible by Friday afternoon before the Monday course start. A representative will contact you if there are any changes in the status of your class.
Q: Do I need to purchase additional materials for these courses?
A: Many of these classes require additional materials. For ASME code-related classes, you should have a copy or access to a copy of the related code for reference purposes. For other classes, check the catalog description to find out what additional materials are required.
Q: Do I receive a certificate and CEU’s for the completion of an online class?
A: Many of the online classes have CEU (Continuing Education Units) associated with successful completion of the course. In order to receive these CEU’s you must complete all the quizzes and exams in the course and achieve an average score of 75% or better.
Q: What is a CEU?
A: A CEU is a Continuing Education Unit and is the equivalent of 10 hours of classroom instruction.
Q: What is a PDH?
A: A PDH is a Professional Development Hour and is equivalent to 1 hour of classroom instruction.
Q: Why do I need PDH’s or CEU’s?
A: Some states require PE’s (Professional Engineers) to take continuing education in order to maintain their license. These requirements are stated in terms of PDH’s or CEU’s. If you are a PE and are unsure of your states continuing education requirement, contact your state education department for more information.
