Society of Manufacturing Engineers Partners With EMCI Program

NEW YORK, June 11, 2008 – The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) has entered into a partnership with the Engineering Management Certification International (EMCI™) program to promote a worldwide standard for engineering management.

Joining ASME and four other engineering organizations as founding partners of EMCI, SME members are entitled to discount pricing on EMCI examinations and publications.  In addition, SME has agreed to provide representation on the advisory board of EMCI and contribute to the program’s body of knowledge and other content.

EMCI provides engineering students and practitioners with the opportunity to obtain skills in engineering management, along with an internationally recognized credential.  EMCI covers financial analysis, sales and marketing, strategic business planning, legal issues, professional responsibility, and other domains increasingly sought in today’s global business environment.

The six founding partners – ASME, SME, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Engineering Management, and the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers – have collaborated on EMCI in an effort to develop a universally recognized standard of quality for engineering management.

The components of EMCI include publications, examinations, and seminars administered through authorized knowledge providers.

Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization promoting the art, science and practice of mechanical and multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences.  ASME develops codes and standards that enhance public safety, and provides lifelong learning and technical exchange opportunities benefiting the global engineering and technology community.  ASME has more than 127,000 members worldwide.
