NEW YORK, Aug. 7, 2006 – David A. Vise, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter at the Washington Post and author of the book, The Google Story, will speak at the 2006 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress this November in Chicago.
Vise will present the keynote speech at the Congress on Nov. 7. The speech will focus on the essential factors that drive innovation in successful business. Vise will present as a case study the Washington Post, which has maximized its use of Google’s revolutionary search engine capabilities to enhance its news-gathering and publishing operations.
Vise has covered the FBI and the Justice Department for the Washington Post, among other beats, since joining the newspaper in the 1980s. In addition to The Google Story, Vice is the author of The Bureau and the Mole, which appeared on The New York Times bestsellers list. Other books are Sweet Redemption: How Coach Gary Williams and the University of Maryland Terrapins Overcame Death and Despair to Win the NCAA Basketball Championship and Eagle on the Street.
Eagle on the Street was based on the Washington Post series, "The Man from Wall Street: John Shad's Reign at the SEC," which won the 1990 Pulitzer Prize.
Vise is the recipient of numerous honors, including the 1990 Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism and the 1992 Distinguished Alumnus Award from University School of Nashville.
A 1982 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Vise has an M.B.A. from the Wharton School and an Honorary Doctorate of Literary Letters from Cumberland University. A former Wall Street investment banker at Goldman, Sachs & Co., Vise also studied at the London School of Economics.
The 2006 ASME Congress and Exposition will run Nov. 5-10, at the Chicago Hilton. The conference will include an exhibit showcasing the latest in technological innovation and a technical program featuring nine special industry tracks on project management, energy, global technology transfer, sustainable engineering and other subjects. The tracks will provide engineers in industry with the opportunity to develop content that promotes corporate innovation and productivity.
