Industry Achievements Recognized at ASME-IPTI Petroleum Division Awards Dinner

NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2007 – In recognition of outstanding contributions in support of the art, science and practice of mechanical engineering, innovation and professional excellence, the ASME International Petroleum Technology Institute (IPTI) will hold its annual awards dinner, Sept. 20, at the Marriott Houston Westchase, 2900 Briarpark. 

Peter D. Kinnear, president and CEO of Houston-based FMC Technologies, Inc. and
ASME Fellow and Past-President Keith B. Thayer will be among six individuals being honored this year by the ASME-IPTI Petroleum Division.

For his significant contributions to the petroleum industry demonstrated through his management and motivational skills, entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership within corporate and industry circles, Kinnear will receive the 2007 Rhodes Petroleum Industry Leadership Award, named in honor of the late Allen R. Rhodes, past-president of ASME (1970-71) and former chair of the ASME Petroleum Division.  FMC Technologies, Inc. is a leading global provider of technology solutions for the energy industry and other industrial markets.  Kinnear, a resident of Tomball, Texas, joined FMC in 1971.

Other awards recipients include:
Christopher Lindsey-Curran, a senior subsea engineer with BP and lead engineer for subsea controls and umbilicals on the Thunder Horse Project in the Gulf of Mexico. He will receive the 2007 Ross Kastor Educators Award for his dedication to improving engineering and science awareness for students and the enhancement of education for future leaders. Lindsey-Curran is a member of ASME and founding chairman of the Society for Underwater Technology’s in Houston.

Joe Pallini, a member of ASME and global technical director of Floating Production Systems for the Vetco Gray, Inc., division of General Electric (Houston), will receive the 2007 Silver Patent Award.  Pallini holds 26 patents for GE Aviation and Vetco Gray.  With over 25 years in the oil and gas industry, Pallini’s patents include project applications in shallow flow designs for subsea wellheads, casting connectors and floating production platform products. 

Keith B. Thayer, retired, with over 50 years of experience in engineering and construction for the petrochemical, refining, steel, manufacturing and related industries, will receive the 2007 ASME Exceptional Volunteer Award.  The award recognizes ASME volunteers who have exhibited extraordinary qualities such as professionalism, commitment and initiative.  Thayer, a resident of Houston, served his term as ASME president from 1997 to 1998.  He became a Fellow in 1983.

Robert M. Tessari, chief technology officer and vice chairman of the board of directors for Tesco Corporation (Houston), will be presented with the 2007 Titanium Award for Outstanding Industry Achievement – an award given in recognition of outstanding citizenship in the petroleum industry. With over 40 years of contributions to oilfield technology, Tessari has served the industry throughout the world, including projects in Canada, Indonesia and Egypt.

Marcos Flores, a facilities manager with Chevron’s Tahiti major capital project, will become the first recipient of the Keith Thayer Exceptional Early Career Engineer Award.  A graduate of the University of Houston, in 2005, he earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. Flores has been active on ASME committees, including the IPTI Early Career Committee. He also volunteers time as a project team leader with Engineers Without Boarders.
