WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 21, 2003 - Today's entrepreneurs are looking to technology to help them fuel successful businesses and maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace. ASME International (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), in cooperation with the Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies, the Greater Baltimore Technology Council, and the Technology Council of Maryland, will present the Sixth Annual Summit on the State of Technology in Maryland, Feb. 10, at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel, Annapolis, Md.

Leaders in the field's science and technology, representing government, business and academia, will gather to discuss opportunities for working together to preserve and continue to create high technology jobs in Maryland.

Speakers include the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., Maryland Senate president and House Speaker Mike Busch. Focus sessions featuring panelists from industry and the private sector will discuss information technology, high-tech machinery, instruments and chemicals; engineering, defense and aerospace R&D and the field of bioscience.

Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD) and Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes (D-MD) have been invited to speak at the conference luncheon about Maryland's role in innovative research and financing of the state's technology companies.
