NEW YORK, Aug. 25, 2008 – Engineers, scientists and educators from around the world will gather in Boston for the 2008 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition to be held Oct. 31-Nov.6, at the Sheraton Boston Hotel & Towers and John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center.
The Congress is the largest annual conference of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and features over 450 technical session that showcase advancements in a number of diverse technical fields including aerospace, bioengineering, energy and power, pressure technology, transportation and other industries.
Today’s engineers are responding to the challenge for greater technical knowledge and innovation that fosters solutions needed to meet global demands for renewable energy, environmental concerns, health, clean water, transportation and sustainability. The ASME Congress offers programs, workshops and paper sessions designed to keep engineers and other technical professionals at the forefront of technology in order to address the grand challenges of our planet.
The seven-day conference will adhere to a multidisciplinary program focused on diverse areas of engineering research and advanced developments in fields such as manufacturing and design engineering, thermodynamics, biomedical systems, nanotechnology, safety engineering and risk analysis, and other emerging technologies and issues at the forefront of the mechanical engineering profession.
The Congress will include an opening keynote session on Nov. 1, and a three-day exposition, Nov. 3-5, showcasing the latest in engineering technology and publications from companies such as DuPont, Design Simulation Technologies, Inc., Comsol, Polytec Inc., and from publishers including McGraw Hill, John Wiley & Sons, Oxford University Press and others. The exhibit hall will also include a Career Expo proving career leads and opportunities from prospective employers and universities.
For the second year running, the Congress will feature the ASME Innovation Showcase (ASME IShow), a competition featuring the inventive skills of engineering students and the potential for their new inventions to impact commercial markets. The ASME IShow will be held on Oct. 31.
Other events featured at the Congress will include the 2008 ASME Student Design Competition – WINROBO robotic window cleaner, Nov. 2, and the annual ASME Honors Assembly ceremony on Nov 3, recognizing a wide variety of accomplishments, distinguished service and outstanding achievement in mechanical engineering.
Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization promoting the art, science and practice of mechanical and multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences. ASME develops codes and standards that enhance public safety, and provides lifelong learning and technical exchange opportunities benefiting the engineering and technology community.
