2008 Student Professional Development Conferences
|

ASME Student Professional Development Conferences feature competitions in design, oral presentation, technical poster presentation, and web page design, all of which reward cash prizes and offer a great learning experience.
The 2008 Student Design Competition, WINROBO, challenges student teams to design, build, and demonstrate a robot which will wash a residential double-hung sash window autonomously, that is, without human intervention beyond placing the robot on the lowest window pane and turning it on, or under remote control of an operator “inside” the “building”. Many homeowners, particularly those with mobility problems which keep them confined to a wheel chair, often have difficulty cleaning windows in their home. Being able to clean the outside of the window automatically should provide a safety benefit to all homemakers, particularly those with older upper floor windows to clean. Other competitions include the Old Guard Oral Presentation Competition, The Old Guard Technical Poster Competition, The Old Guard Technical Web Page Competition, and the Radio Controlled Micro Baja Competition (District D only).
Students also have the opportunity to participate in Industry Tours, Career Fairs, Workshops, Student Section Meetings, Early Career Technical Conferences (ECTC), and other activities.
