The program enables ASME groups, including Councils, Boards, Technical Divisions, Committees and Task Forces to pursue their government relations interests and thereby contribute to the Society's public policy agenda.
If you are concerned about public policy issues such as energy policy, global climate change, government funding for research and development, or science, technology, engineering and mathematics K-12 education, the Washington Visitation Program can help you address your issues in a timely and effective manner.
Program Objectives The following are the program objectives of the ASME's Board on Government Relation's Washington Visitation Program:
- To broaden interest and participation of ASME members in government relations by providing an opportunity for them to pursue their public policy concerns.
- To provide a mechanism for members to draft timely public policy statements for adoption as position statements by an ASME group or the Society as a whole.
- To enable members to come to Washington, D.C. to learn first hand how federal policy is made and to apply that knowledge at the state and local levels of government as well.
- To provide an effective vehicle that brings the public concerns of ASME groups to the attention of Congress, federal agencies, and state and local governments.
