Through ASME's Federal Government Fellowship Program, ASME members can provide engineering and technical expertise to policy makers in Congress, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and key federal agencies.
| ENGINEERING EXPERTISE FOR THE NATION |
Federal Government Fellowships provide a valuable public service to the nation while at the same time providing engineers with a unique opportunity to participate directly in the policy making process. Over the past few decades, ASME Federal Fellows have distinguished themselves as key advisors on standards, nanotechnology, risk analysis, critical infrastructure, energy, education, aerospace, manufacturing, technology development and other national issues of the day. |
| CONGRESSIONAL FELLOWSHIPS |
Congressional Fellowships are designed to provide a unique public policy learning experience, demonstrate the value of engineering-government interaction, and bring technical backgrounds and external perspectives to the decision-making process in Congress. Congressional fellows may serve from January through December or September through August, at their option. Applications for Congressional Fellowship(s) are accepted annually from December 1st until March 31st. |
| EXECUTIVE BRANCH FELLOWSHIPS |
Assignments with the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), Executive Office of the President and federal agencies are available periodically throughout the year. Description of current fellowship opportunities are available to review. |
| ELIGIBILITY |
| Because of the limited number of fellowships available each year, the process is very competitive. A stipend of $60,000 will be awarded to each Fellow/Congressionall Fellowship. All Fellowship applicants must be a U.S. citizen and an ASME member at the time of application. Federal employees are not eligible. The following credentials are encouraged: an advanced engineering degreee, professional engineer registration, and some public policy experience. |
Funding for the ASME Federal Government Fellowship Program is made possible by ASME and through charitable contributions made to the ASME Foundation. Visit foundation.asme.org for more information on how you can support this important public service. |
