Networking and talking to strangers about yourself can be intimidating. The best way to get rid of the butterflies in your stomach and build your confidence is to be prepared. Once you’ve equipped yourself with a solid resume, take time to prepare (and commit to memory) a 15-30 second commercial that you can use in a variety of situations and networking opportunities (career fairs, job interviews, networking events, cold calling). Your “elevator speech” should succinctly tell the individual you are giving it to who you are, what makes you unique, and the benefits you can provide. Another way to approach writing your speech – if have 30 seconds to sell yourself in an elevator with an executive recruiter in your industry or better yet a hiring manager for your dream job, what would you say?
