All Strategic Priorities Grant Fund (SPGF) proposals are evaluated through use of the following criteria. The criteria include considerations that help define them. These considerations are provided to give proposers more insight on the factors to be considered by the Grant Management Committee in evaluating proposals. Please note that the criteria will not be considered equally, and their weight is noted.
Please note: these criteria will be used to evaluate the first year of a multi-year proposal. For evaluation criteria to be used for years two and three of a proposal, please also see the Multi-Year Proposal Criteria.
How effectively will the proposed activity promote the strategic priorities of the ASME Board of Governors (BOG) that are contained in the Balanced Scorecard? (30% weight)
How well will the proposed activity further one or more of the BOG strategic priorities? Are the desired outcomes and measures of the activity clear?
Does the proposed activity involve broad-based, cross-sector activity? (15% weight)
Because the BOG’s strategic priorities call for action to address major challenges for the organization, proposals that are multi-functional in nature, requiring cross-organizational collaboration from units throughout the Society are strongly preferred. Have the collaborating units been identified in the proposal and have they made a commitment to support the project?
Is the proposer well qualified to successfully complete the proposed activity? (10% weight)
How well qualified is the proposer to conduct the project? Proposals must be sponsored by one or more ASME program development entities. How well conceived and organized is the proposed activity? Is there sufficient access to resources required beyond those that may be provided by a SPGF grant, including volunteers, staff, contractors, outside partners, equipment and systems?
To what extent does the proposed activity provide new, fresh ideas versus “business as usual?” (15% weight)
Does the proposed activity suggest and explore creative and innovative concepts? Activities that are outside ASME “business as usual” are strongly preferred.
What is the potential for the proposed activity to generate net revenue through new products and global growth? (30% weight)
Projects that have strong potential to generate net revenue are preferred. Projects may address needs of markets currently served by ASME, but preference will be given to proposals that address new markets and opportunities. Proposals for activities that are not intended to generate net revenue will be considered. However, such proposals will normally only be eligible for one year of funding and must clearly demonstrate how the activity will be sustained after the one-year grant. |
