Training Committee

Vision
Volunteer leaders throughout the Knowledge and Community (K&C) Sector participate in an annual training program to develop the knowledge and skills needed to lead their units in forming collaborative efforts, sharing best practices, providing forums for outreach, focusing programs on critical issues (students, early career engineers, industry, new technologies, etc.), encouraging more active volunteer participation, and developing new business opportunities.

Mission
The Programs and Activities’ Training Committee ensures that K&C volunteer leaders have the training and information needed to lead their units effectively.

The P&A Training Committee

  • Reviews and refines the skills and knowledge that a volunteer needs at each level of leadership within the K&C volunteer structure, a.k.a. the Body of Knowledge (BOK);
  • Develops and implements an annual training plan for those elements of the BOK which are unique to the K&C Sector.  The annual training plan includes face-to-face conferences, webinars, modules and materials available for download and  local use, and online self-study materials;
  • Collaborates with other Sectors and the Volunteer Orientation and Leadership Training (VOLT) Academy in the development and implementation of those elements of the BOK that are cross-sector in nature; and
  • Provides guidance and support to specific training initiatives as requested.

Training Committee News
Current activities include exploring how the Leadership Training Committee meets the needs of K&C unit leaders, and invigorating training programs for Section leaders.  A future goal is to provide training for those unit leaders (e.g., Chairs of Division Technical Committees) who are unlikely to attend the LTC.
