
Through annual financial contributions and volunteer time and efforts, the Old Guard conducts the following programs for the benefit of engineering students and early career engineers, and ultimately for the good of the engineering profession:

Prize money to first place winners of the Oral Presentation Competition at the Student Professional Development Conferences (approximately $12,000). The winner in each District also receives round trip transportation to and lodging at the Congress (approximately $12,000).
Prize money to first place winners of the Video Presentation Competition ($2,000).
Prize money to first place Technical Webpage Competition winners at the Student Professional Development Conferences. ($2,600).
Prize money to first place Technical Poster Competition winners at the Student Professional Development Conferences ($2,600).
Pays for student members who participate in the Oral Presentation or Technical Poster Competition to upgrade to Member. ($2,000).
Prize money to 4 national winners of the Old Guard Oral Competition at Congress ($5,000).
Pays cost for students to attend the Members and Students luncheon at Congress ($2,500).
Host a reception for Old Guard Oral Competition for Students and ASME leadership ($10,500).
Early Career Award - The Old Guard contributed $120,000 to fund this award. The winner of this yearly award receives $5,000 plus a prepaid life membership. Two runner-up winners receive prepaid life membership.
Student Section Advisor Award. The Old Guard contributed $25,000 to fund this yearly award.
Pays travel cost for Charles T. Main Student Section Award and Arthur L. Williston Award Award winners approximately ($3,000).
Sponsor Breakfast for the Student Sections Committee at the Annual Meeting. ($1,500).
Sponsor Breakfast and Lunch for OG Oral Competitors and Judges at the Congress. ($3,000).
Sponsor Dinner for Oral Competition Judges and Committee at the Congress ($2,000).
