COR is currently made up of 6 members appointed by the Board of Governors to a term of 3 years. A liaison is also appointed by the BOG to serve as a representative of the Board.

The members elect, among themselves, a Chair who serves on an annual basis and may be re-elected.

As a standing committee of the BOG, COR is independent of Sector organization and interests, and selects its members from throughout the Society.

The Committee attracts some of the best and brightest from throughout ASME. COR Members have included former Presidents, Governors, and Vice Presidents, as well as many who have gone on to serve in those and other positions.

COR also attracts promising younger members interested in gaining a broad perspective of ASME and contributing to the Society's development in fundamental ways.
