For ASME, like all professional societies, new members come primarily from the ranks of college students. It is therefore critically important to encourage students to become involved in their professional society. To report membership events Supplement 6 (duplicate if necessary) must be filled out and included in the Final Report. Points are allocated for: 

a. Send letter or email to underclass students outlining ASME purpose and benefits. 10 points per letter. Include copy in Final Report. 20 points event max
b. Make oral presentation to underclass students concerning ASME.
5 points per presentation.

c.

Enroll underclass students in ASME.

d. Hold membership social to encourage the enrollment of new members. 10 points per social. 20 points event max

Enroll upper-class students in ASME

Points = Number of ASME Upper-class Student Members * 100

f. Participate in an ASME program to attract new student members.
Include evidence of participation. 10 points per application.

ASME Underclass Student Members are first and second year students (or first year students at two-year colleges) who have enrolled by the close of the contest. The student's name should appear on the membership roster sent to the student section advisor in early March.

ASME Upper-class Student Members are juniors and seniors (or sophomores at two-year colleges) who have enrolled by the close of the contest. The student's name should appear on the membership roster sent to the student section advisor in early March.

Underclass Students are full-time first and second year students (or first year students at two-year colleges), as defined by the section's college, in the department as of the last winter term in the contest period. The department chair will have this information.

Upper-class Students are full-time junior and senior students (or sophomore students at two-year colleges), as defined by the section's college, in the department as of the last winter term in the contest period. The department chair will have this information.
