Region IX North - CSU Cisco 1989 RSC Design Contest
Project Description:
Design and construct an object or vehicle that will stay aloft as long as possible when released from a specific height.
Rules and Specifications:
The device that will release the project is shown in figure 1. The project will be required to meet the following criteria:
- Materials allowed - Anything you want to use
- Types of stored energy allowed - Gravitational potential only
- Weight constraints - minimum of 2 ounces, maximum of 8 ounces
- Dimensional constraints - the project must fit into a box 2'x2'x2'
- The winning project will have the highest product of weight and time aloft

Contest Location:
The contest will be held outdoors, weather permitting. In case of inclimate weather, the contest will be held in the Mechanical Engineering Lab at CSU Chico.
The design contest will commence at the end of the student business meeting, Sunday morning, approximately 10:00 am. The top ten finishers will have the opportunity to compete at the awards luncheon in front of the combined group of Senior Section members, Faculty Advisors, and members of the Regional Operating Board. This group will also include the current President of ASME, Ernest Daman, as well as members of the Board of Governors.
All students are encouraged to participate. There is no limit to the number of entries from each school, however, we must limit each person to one entry.
