Egg Drop/Throwing Contest

1982 STUDENT DESIGN CONTEST
Region IV RSC, Knoxville, TN

The objective of this year`s contest is to design and construct an egg-tossing device. This will be a test of accuracy, the dimensions of the range given below. A maximum of 5 #64 rubber bands (3-1/2" x 1/4" x 1/32", sample enclosed) may be used as the power source. The device will be set up and aligned by team members but will be activated by a neutral observer. The tosser must be free standing (ie, the neutral observer must be the only person touching the device when it is "fired").

Other Information and Rules:

  •  Each entry will be given two opportunities (eggs) to hit the target. No other attempts at the target will be allowed.
  • An egg breaking prior to target impact nullifies that attempt.
  • Time permitting, more than one entry per student section is permissible (the faculty advisor will designate the school`s "official" entry).
  • The competition will consist of two rounds. A maximum repair time of 5 minutes is permitted, and a supply of #64 rubber bands will be available.
  • Ties will be decided by a one egg toss-off.
