Computer Card Structure

This design exercise was developed to give the student and senior members an opportunity to work together in a design setting.

This project represents the need for cost effectiveness in the workplace, whether it be in industry or getting the ASME job done. Often times, we have very limited funds to work with when doing ASME projects and so I hope this will be a good exercise in cutting costs as a group.

Develop a structure to hold a brick 13 inches off the table using only the following available items:

  • Computer Cards
  • Staples

Each team will be supplied with an unlimited amount of computer cards (up to 50!) and a stapler.

The structure will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Failure
  • Total cost

The cost is evaluated as follows:

  • 3 points one computer card
  • 2 points each fold (in the card)
  • 1 point one staple

Time limit: 30 minutes

Work Quickly!

Good Luck!
