Catapult

(1986)


Objective:

Construct a mechanism that will catapult the provided projectile a
maximum distance in the prescribed direction.


Design Constraints:

  1. Catapult must be constructed only from the provided materials.
  2. Catapult must be launched by one person.
  3. Catapult must be launched from a stationery position on the table.
  4. 30 minute construction time.


Judging Criteria:

  • Each mechanism will be scored by applying the following formula:

Score = X * Y Where: X = Distance in inches

Y = Accuracy percentage

Example: X = 40" Y = 85% Score = 40 * 0.85 = 34

  • Each team will select one team member to launch their catapult
  • 2 launches will be allowed for each team
  • Only launches in the forward direction count.

Determination of Winner

The team with the highest score from either of their launches will
be declared the winner.

3 Pill Cups 1 Plastic Spoon 6 Tongue Depressers

10 Rubber Bands (Big) 3 Tacks (Thumb) 1 Small Orange Ball (like comes with Jax)

1 Paper Bag (Lunch) 2 Sheets Paper (with instructions on them)
