Birthday Candle Powered Vehicle
|
- There shall be no more than five (5) entries per school.
- The objective is to design, build and operate a vehicle powered by birthday candles.
- The number of candles used shall not exceed ten (10).
- There shall be no restrictions on size, shape or mechanics of the vehicle.
- The vehicle shall contain no stored energy. This shall include any potential energy, loaded springs, compressed fluids, or any type of kinetic energy. The change in total potential energy for the distance travelled by the vehicle shall be zero.
- A time limit of 15 minutes shall be allowed for each run.
- The vehicle shall receive no outside energy to initiate movement (such as a push). This shall be in exception to rule 8.
- The lighting of the candle procedure shall not be a heat transfer greater than necessary to simply light the candle.
- Candles similar to the sample supplied nay be purchased anywhere for design and test procedures, but for the actual and final test, the candles shall be supplied by Texas A&M University.
- Candles may be physically cut, formed or changed, but in no way shall any chemical transformations take place.
- The winners of the contest shall be the sponsor of the vehicle that travels the longest distance on the least number of candles. The maximum distance possible will be 100 ft.
- Awards will be:
- most innovative design.
- Aggie Award" for the most elaborate design.
- most effective design.
- most spectacular run.
- and First Place.
- The judges for the contest shall be chosen from Texas A&M University faculty.
