ROLLER COASTER

  1. Define the following terms:
    Centrifugal force
    Centripetal force
    Gravity
    Potential energy
    Kinetic energy
  2. Draw a diagram of the lift and loop of a roller coaster, labeling the height of the first lift and drop, the height of the loop, and the radius of the loop.
  3. Write out the equations you need to use to find the height of the lift needed to send the roller coaster through the loop you drew in #2 above.  Remember that you want to have centrifugal force equal to twice the normal force due to gravity.
  4. Solve the problem you outlined in #4 above.
