Teacher Education Programs: Creating A Feedback Loop

Two large-scale projects are underway at Michigan State University, "Teachers for a New Era" and "PROM/SE - Promoting Rigorous Outcomes in Mathematics and Science Education," that will have a major impact on the preparation of teachers of mathematics and science in K-12.

These projects are briefly described before focusing attention on a crucial aspect of both: The evaluation of teacher education programs. The session featured discussions on what should be evaluated, what can be evaluated, how we can do so, and what challenges must be faced. Included in the last category are false assumptions we may be overlooking.
