Through membership in JETS, ASME promotes JETS' national, team-oriented competitions and activities that introduce high school students to engineering.
These include:
- TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) enables high school students to learn team development and problem-solving skills using classroom mathematics to solve real-world problems.
- NEDC (National Engineering Design Challenge) challenges teams of students, often working with an engineering adviser, to design, fabricate, and demonstrate a working solution to a social need.
- NEAS+ (National Engineering Aptitude Search) a self-administered academic survey that enables students to determine their current level of preparation in "engineering basic skills subjects" (applied mathematics, science, and reasoning).
- JETS Challenge
Through its partnership with JETS, ASME reaches more than 20,000 students annually. JETS is the core organization representing all disciplines and areas of engineering and serves as the critical link between pre-college students, teachers, parents and school counselors, and the engineering community—professional societies, corporations, and academic institutions.
WHAT CAN MEMBERS DO? ASME members can encourage high school teachers and administrators to conduct JETS programs in their schools, or as out-of-school activities. Engineers and engineering students can serve as coaches to teams, and work with teachers supervising teams. Check out what's available! |
