This course covers the requirements of Section VIII, Division 1, including organisation, design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and documentation of pressure vessels, as well as a comprehensive introduction to the requirements of various codes and standards, regarding inspection, repairs & alterations of pressure equipment and pressure vessels.

• The background of the Section VIII Division 1 code • How to apply code rules to more common design and fabrication situations • Calculations for loadings and situations not addressed by the Section VIII Division 1 code • Preparation of design specifications, design reports and data reports • Requirements of the National Board Inspection Code and the API-510 • Introduction to API-579 • Planning of a pressure vessel inspection • The activities of ASME’s Post Construction Committee
Who Should Attend Individuals involved with purchase, design, fabrication or inspection of pressure vessels as well as individuals from users, manufacturers, repair organisations, inspection agencies and other organisations involved with maintenance and repair of pressure equipment.
Instructor Robert Kauer (Dipl. Ing., Dr. Ing.) has been working in the field of pressure vessel and piping technology for over 28 years, starting as an R&D engineer at the Institute of PVP Design, Experimental Stress Analysis and Plant Engineering in Munich. He has handled various national and international projects related to design, structural reliability, Fitness for Service, and inspection programme development for nuclear and non-nuclear applications in pressure vessel and piping technlogy. He holds an US National Board Commission as ASME Authorized Inspector and is member of various national and European committees. Currently he is head of the Plant Optimisation Department at TÜV SÜD Industry Service GmbH. He received his engineering degree from the Technical University of Munich.
