In this course, participants will learn how to apply the rules of API 579 "Fitness-for-Service" Standard to evaluate the integrity and remaining life of tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems and pipelines.

You Will Learn

  • The practical application of the ASME and API rules for structural integrity of static equipment and pipelines, and their use to assess remaining life
  • How to apply the step-by-step 3-level approach of API 579 "Fitness-for-Service" Standard to evaluate inspection results and recognise potential failure modes
  • The application of API 579 "Fitness-for-Service" Standard to brittle fracture, general metal loss, local wall thinning, pitting, blisters, mechanical defects, crack-like flaws, fatigue, and fire damage.

Who Should Attend
Design and system engineers, integrity engineers.

Requirements
Participants MUST bring a laptop loaded with MS-Excel and be familiar with MS-Excel spreadsheets for repeated calculations. Participants will be expected to work with computers during the course to input and work with calculations.

Instructor
Ron Frend is a registered engineer, and has nearly 40 years of engineering, consulting and management experience. The focus of his career has been practical applications of maintenance and engineering.
Mr. Frend is experienced in a variety of predictive maintenance analytical techniques as well as possessing management skills suitable to an engineering consultancy and a large multinational corporation. Mr. Frend has conducted specialized training on the following topics: Fitness for Service, management techniques, Non-destructive testing and inspection of static equipment, rotating equipment (operation, design and maintenance), resistance and gas welding, vibration analysis, infrared thermography and passive ultrasonics.
