Reynolds, Edwin
| (1831-1909), U.S. mechanical engineer and ASME's 21st president (1902-03), had more than 40 patents, including the first cross-compound hoisting engine for mining work. Working as plant superintendent of the Corliss Steam Engine Company, he built the Corliss engine for the Centennial Exhibition in 1876. In 1877, at Edward P. Allis Company in Milwaukee, he developed the Reynolds-Corliss engines, with improved releasing gear in the valve mechanism. He was born March 23, 1831, Mansfield, Connecticut, and died Feb. 19, 1909, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. |
