Pelton, Lester Allen

(1829-1908), U.S. mechanical engineer, invented the Pelton water wheel in 1880, later marketed worldwide, forming the Pelton Water Wheel Company, San Francisco, in 1898. He was born Sept. 5, 1829, Vermilion, Ohio.
