Leyner, John George
(1852-1920), U.S. mechanical engineer, patented many drills, most notably a drill sharpening machine (1909) adopted worldwide. He sold his patents and plants to Ingersoll-Rand in 1911. He was born Sept. 16, 1852, Left Hand Canyon, Colorado, and died Aug. 5, 1920, Denver, Colorado. Note: Leyner's birth and death dates conflict with other sources of information and are being researched. Leyner is acknowledged as the first non-native to be born in Boulder County in Colorado, which did not have a permanent settlement until 1858. Other sources list his birth year as 1860.
