Knight, Margaret E.
(1838-1914), U.S. mechanical engineer, invented a stop-motion for the loom shuttle at age 12. Her other patents included a machine to fold square-bottomed paper bags (Nov. 15, 1870), machines for shoe cutting (1890-94), several domestic machines, and a compound rotary engine (Dec. 30, 1902) for which she continued to patent improvements. She assigned her engine improvements to Knight-Davidson Motor Company, New York. She was born Feb. 14, 1838, York, Maine, and died Oct. 12, 1914, Framingham, Massachusetts.
