Ingersoll, Simon
(1818-1894), U.S. mechanical engineer, invented and patented rock drills and accessories, and other machines. In 1871, he designed and patented a rock drill long considered one of the most useful appliances used in railroad building, but sold the rights for a nominal sum to Jose F. Navarro. He was born March 3, 1818, Stanwich, Connecticut, and died July 24, 1894, Glenbrook, Connecticut.
