Ford, F Henry
(1863-1947), U.S. manufacturer and inventor, revolutionized the automobile industry as personal or family transportation for the average person. He formed the Ford Motor Company in 1903. He was innovative in his mass-production techniques, price savings from economies of scale, and payments of a living wage to consumer level. The Model T (1908-27) was made by the most advanced production technology yet conceived, delivering a complete chassis every 93 minutes (previously 728 minutes), with ever lowering prices (from $950 a car in 1908 to $290 in 1927). He introduced the Model A in 1928 and the V8 engine in 1932. He was born July 30, 1863, Detroit, and died April 7, 1947.
